Wow. Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday that the whole world was panicking about Y2K? And yet, ten years have come and gone and the world is still spinning, and all of the fears and energy around the millennium bug were unnecessary.
Mark Twain once said “the calamity that comes is never the one we have prepared ourselves for.”
The biblical Job said, “The thing I feared the most has come to pass.”, but in actuality the thing we fear the most nearly never comes to pass.
And even though most of the things we fear never materialize, the fear itself can keep us from moving forward towards our goals and thereby keep a whole lot of things from coming to pass, unfortunately they are often the things we want the most.
One of my favorite poems, Come to the Edge by Christopher Logue, addresses fear in a powerful, unique, and beautiful way. I’d love to leave you with this poem as something to consider for the coming year. My wish for you is that you would be fearless in 2010. Read more
